A Field Becomes Real When It Convenes

WRLDCTY brought a global urban practice together. From 2024 we reimagined its annual convening as a lifelong learning fellowship and a learning lab, carried as a track inside the tenth anniversary edition of the World Cities Summit in Singapore and anchored by an uncommon fellowship of radical optimists. Its most useful outcome was also the simplest: people who had been working alone now knew each other.

Bringing people together is a design act. It has a place, an order, a room temperature and an ending. It also has an economy: a direct investment of USD 135,000 into IP equitization treats what a gathering produces as an asset to renew rather than a cost to carry.

We build gathering points into projects for the same reason. A district with a calendar has a public. A district with a public has a market.
